When I moved to Vancouver Island, it wasn’t by chance. Like many of you, I chose this place—drawn by the natural beauty, the temperate climate, and the opportunity to build something meaningful with my hands and my head. Vision Arboriculture was born out of a desire to offer expert, respectful tree care to homeowners who value their outdoor space as much as the home it surrounds.

Over the years, I’ve worked in properties across Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, and the surrounding communities. Whether it’s a coastal garden overlooking the bay or a forested retreat tucked into the hillside, I see the same thing again and again: homeowners who have invested deeply in their land—not just in dollars, but in time, thought, and care.

Your backyards and gardens are personal. They're designed for both function and reflection. And when it comes to managing the trees that shape those spaces, precision and respect make all the difference.

Tree Care that Elevates Design and Ecology

Last week in Comox, I pruned a mature Western Red Cedar whose canopy had grown so dense it was starving the garden beds below of light and moisture. Rather than remove it entirely, we took a tailored approach—lifting and thinning the canopy to invite sun and airflow back in.

The response was immediate. Tuberous begonias perked up, columbine and hardy geraniums sprang back to life, and even a row of lilacs began budding again along the fence. Tree care isn’t just about control—it’s about restoration. It’s about helping each element of your landscape perform at its best.

In Courtenay, I worked with a homeowner whose overgrown laurel hedge had overtaken the edges of her garden. We reshaped it with care, revealing a long-forgotten stone path winding through her shade garden. She told me later it felt like getting a piece of the property back.

These are the outcomes we aim for—not just a tidier yard, but a rediscovered sense of place.

Tree Care Designed with Habitat, Climate, and Long-Term Health in Mind

For many of our clients, beauty and biodiversity go hand in hand. They’re designing for pollinators, preserving habitat, and incorporating native species like Flowering Currant, Evergreen Huckleberry, and Salal—not just because they thrive here, but because they support the broader ecosystem.

At Vision Arboriculture, we approach every job with those values in mind:

  • We prune to encourage habitat, not eliminate it

  • We preserve nesting zones and work in tune with natural rhythms

  • We tailor our work to soil conditions—from sandy coastal lots in Royston to dense clay in Merville

  • We help you manage stormwater, reduce drought stress, and future-proof your landscape

More Than Maintenance—Reclaiming Potential With Proper Tree Care In Comox Valley

Some projects involve removing what’s no longer serving the space. Tree stumps that interrupt your design, hedges that have grown unruly, or old plantings that no longer fit your vision—we help you clear the way for what’s next.

After a careful stump removal or hedge reduction, a space opens up: for a new planting bed, a patio extension, or simply a clearer view. It’s not about starting over—it’s about moving forward with intention.

And when you do want to plant anew, we’re happy to guide you toward species that thrive on Vancouver Island, add architectural interest, and support a balanced ecosystem. Whether you're seeking privacy, shade, or seasonal colour, we ensure your choices will serve you well into the future.

Your Yard Requires Tree Care; Let’s Shape What Comes Next

When you’ve chosen to make your home on Vancouver Island, your garden is more than décor—it’s an extension of your lifestyle. Whether you’re entertaining under the maples in Cumberland or enjoying a quiet coffee beside the lilacs in Comox, your outdoor space should feel like a reflection of the life you’ve built here.

If you’re thinking about how to protect, restore, or evolve that space, I’d be glad to help.
